Floor Heating System
A floor heating system is more common in Europe right now, but they are gaining in popularity in North
America and the United Kingdom. This type of heating provides an even distribution of the heat in the rooms where it is
installed.
Installation of a floor heating system is not that difficult but it is recommended that a professional contractor do the work
unless you are experienced at installing flooring. You will also need an electrician in some installations as well.
One of the most uncomfortable aspects of the cold months is waking up and walking across a cold floor. This type of radiant
heating system will address this problem. Once installed and operational, you will notice a soothing warmth emanating from the floor. In
addition, all furniture in the room will also be gently heated.
There are two specific types of floor heating systems. One system uses water for the heating and the other uses cables of electricity. Therefore, you have a wet
and a dry system. If you have a hydronic system installed, it involves burying the pipes in the foundation under the floor. The pipes move the
water around to the areas that requiring heating.
The pipes of the hydronic floor heating system are generally a half inch to an inch in diameter. In most cases, they are installed in the concrete itself.
Then the floor installed over top, just as you would with a normal floor. This type of system is best installed for a new home as the pipes
are installed into the concrete slab before finishing the floor.
You can install a floor heating system under wood sub flooring. The heat is transferred over a large area in a gentle manner. It
heats everything in the room including furniture. There is no hot air blowing out of vents, which is what occurs in a forced air system.
Forced air can cause a lot of dust to blow around, which can cause issues with people with allergies.
